The Northern Guardian: Chapter 4
Helicopters
I awoke suddenly, my body instantly alert. I didnt feel tired at all, which is strange, given I had just woken up. I lifted my head, and looked around. I was still in the infirmary. I saw Vullix at the foot of my bed, how did sleeping fur balls manage to look so cute? I heard a noise, very faint. My eyes immediately focused on its source. The doorway, but from what I could tell, there was no one there. I focused hard, and could make out a slight distortion; like heat in the air. There was a rush of air, and the heat-ripple disappeared.
Wait! I called after it and, careful not to wake Vullix, I flew through the doorway, weaved through some rooms, and shot outside. I looked around for the shape, but it was futile. I had woken up too early, and it was still dark outside.
Who...what are you! I cried, hoping the mysterious hot air was still in earshot. If only I had night vision, then I could look for the...whatever it was. A blinding flash of green light lit the area, I summersaulted in midair, dazed by the flash. I looked around for the source of the light, after a couple seconds of that I realized that I was the light. Or at least, I had given myself night vision. I experimented with turning it off and on and, that mastered, I did a sweep for anything moving. I spotted it quickly, something flying over the woods. I rocketed off towards it, breaking the sound barrier quickly. I was gaining on the figure. It suddenly turned around, and I had to stop fast. I swiveled around, my momentum still carrying me towards the unknown flyer, and accelerated in the opposite direction. I quickly stopped, and turned to see what the bedroom dweller was. It; or I should say she, was a Latias.
Uh...h-hey. I stuttered. That stuttering was familiar too...oh right, I stuttered like that when I was around attractive...girls...
That thought smacked me in the face. I was attracted to a Pokémon. It kinda made sense, I was a Pokémon after all, but it struck me at how fast I had adjusted to being an Eon. I was already feeling attracted to girls, It was like some crazy Pokémon puberty. I took another look at the Latias. She was smaller than me. Her ears were different too. Her eyes were a deep shade of violet, it was enchanting. I could stare at those eyes all day. She was white, as most Eons were, but had that same enchanting violet where Latias had red. I realized that she probably wasnt a Latias at all, and that I had been staring at her for a while now. She had also been staring at me too. I tried another greeting.
H-hey! I mustered, stuttering again. Great. She seemed to snap out of her trance too and a frightened expression appeared on her face. Did I scare her? Then I heard the choppers. I whirled around, ready to defend, but right when I was about to attack, I realized I didnt know how. I thought really hard, looking for anything that might help me. I couldnt figure anything out, because I started hearing gunshots. My consciousness slowed, I could see the bullets coming as fast as birds. It was much faster then that in reality, but to me they looked like blurry hummingbirds looking for someone to kill. I instinctively raised my arm, and the bullets stopped. It was putting enormous strain on me though, so I instead cloaked, and dropped let the bullets fly in a different direction.
AAAH! I again whirled around, this time to check on the purple Latias. She looked hurt but the blood on her tails confirmed it. She had been shot. The mere sight of her pain sent me into a rage. Power coursed through me, my eyes started to glow as well as my hands. I could see the Latiass face, she had no idea what to think. Neither did I. I just felt inexplicable rage, filling me. Threatening to explode out in whatever form possible. I couldnt hold onto it any longer, I didnt know what to do. I closed my eyes, balled my fists, and let out a roar. Energy pulsed from my paws, ripping through the air towards the metal bellies of the enemy helicopters. It shot past the chopper, rounded back, and sliced through the monstrosity. The two halves floated away from each other, as if they were submerged in water. They then exploded in sequence. The sound was delayed, like thunder and lightning. Then it hit, the force nearly decimating my eardrums. Again, my instincts took over, and I shot towards the injured Lati, rapping myself around her in a protective cocoon. I felt so weak, I couldnt create a shield. I had no way to protect myself from incoming shrapnel. I just had to hope.
Gah! I yelled, as a red hot scrap of hull pierced my body, I felt the blood starting to flow. I tried to get healing started, if I had any. A feeling of warmth, not from the red hot shrapnel, began to spread. It pushed the shrapnel out of my body, then stopped healing. I felt the power begin to flow into the Latiass body, healing her wounds. Once her wounds were healed, I thought mine would begin to start, but it never came. Instead, a strange feeling of déjá vu, I thought for a bit, and realized what was familiar. I felt the same as I did back in the human world, when I had just finished a double all-nighter(which is where you go 48 hours with no sleep, just studying. In both instances, both back then and right now, I suddenly dropped unconscious. The difference in this one was the location. Five thousand feet above a forest. I felt the darkness creeping on the sides on my vision. I closed my eyes, the only thing I could do now is let the sleep claim me. At least I wouldnt feel myself hit the ground. I was just glad the violet Eon was safe. I had never gotten her name.
Latira. My name is Latira. A melodic voice sounded in my head, and the last thing I felt was two delicate arms struggling to slow my descent into the forest before my conscious gave way to my subconscious.
Florida, One Week, Five Days Later
Were here, sir! A voice said, Shooting the words like bullets into my ears. I must of been sleeping pretty deeply for him to need to yell.
No need to yell, son! I shouted back, enjoying the look on the soldiers face when he saw that old men were capable of irony. I looked out towards the docks, enjoying the scent of salty water, and salty sand intermingling in the sun-baked air. This was why I became a sailor, the magnificent scents.
Captain, lets go! The magic was broken at the sound of that shrill voice. Falon raced over to the gangplank and shouted for me to come. I did, walking slowly to show my annoyance, mot mostly just to annoy her back. Once we were on the dock, we hasted up to the beach gate, the coast guard had already shown the gate guard our temporary passports (two big guys with big guns and intimidating looks). When we were finally in town, the first thing Falon did was buy a cheeseburger, and the first thing I did was buy a book on mythical creatures. When we met up after shopping at our respective stores, I showed Falon the book. She smiled, showing me her mouth full of...cheeseburger. I counted to ten, calming down, and opened the book to the chapter that said, The Devils Triangle. I instantly saw something significant, a silhouette of a giant bird, known to sailors as the Storm Demon. It was shady, but it seemed to be the shape of the creature that took Reed. I started to read more...
The Storm Demon, also known as the Guardian of the Eye, the Eye being the center of the triangle, is a Mythical beast supposed by legend to guard the secrets that lie at the center of the triangle. Many mythologists believe that the disappearance of Flight 19 is because of this creature. Sailors who claim to have seen this legendary figure describe a beam of multicolor light coming from its head. Some more traveled sailors relate this experience to the northern lights, the aurora seen at the North Pole. As I read, my eyes opened wider and wider, as I realized what a jackpot of information this was. Falon had stopped in mid cheeseburger, which I wont elaborate on.
Falon, do you know what this means? I said, barely managing to keep the excitement from shaking my voice.
I think so, but you better tell me just in case. She stated calmly. For a scientist, this girl sure was thick.
What it means, girl, is that we finally have a lead.
Unknown Location, Pokémon World
Where am I! Why does my head hurt so bad! I woke up incredibly confused, and with a throbbing headache. It was made worse by horrible memories flashing in my mind. Rage, blood, fire, flashed in random sequence. I had no idea where I was, or what was going on. I found something out before, why I woke up with a lump on my head. I stared at the unfamiliar fruit on the ground before me, it was orange and blue, with a dark green bruise on its side. Who am I, Isaac Newton? I thought. I had a little chuckle inside, but it was quickly silenced by some throbbing pain from my head. A familiar voice sounded in my mind, causing the pain.
Finally awake, The voice said. I was sick of voices in my head, but this one seemed different.
Who are you? I thought back.
You dont remember? The voice sounded hurt for a moment, the sounded normal again. Thats normal, I guess. You just had both wings pierced by shrapnel. Those words brought a flood of images, the helicopters, the bullets...
The helicopters! I exclaimed.
Their gone, you...you destroyed them. More memories flashing past. Anger, uncontrollable power, burning shrapnel, searing pain.
Where are you? I ask her.
Im gathering berries to help your wounds, Ill be there soon. Youd better rest in the mean time.
Yes, I thought, realizing how exhausted I was, Thank you...f-for everything.
Its nothing, really She began, but I interrupted her.
Latira.
Y-yes?
Its not nothing. Then I dropped unconscious...again.
